My First Day

It was very uneventful.  I worked the lunch shift, which was pretty slow and didn’t pick up until about 1.  I had some issues with remembering to get bread and salad.  Also, there’s a timing issue.  The Harribalsac was all about turn & burn and this place is a much slower pace.  I kept trying to get orders while my trainer roped me in.  “Not yet,” was the most common phrase I heard today.  Otherwise, things were fine.

I’m scheduled for a week of training, but I pretty much elbowed my trainer out of the way and started taking tables.  She got the tips, of course, but I didn’t plan on standing behind her like a dummy while she taught me how to wait tables.  I hope I get off the training schedule by Wednesday.

There was one customer who I thought was strange and after she left the owner said, “That woman was weird as fuck.”  HAHAHA!  I think I’m going to fit right in.

Awesome. I’m like you – I can’t just stand there like a useless lump. I was also supposed to have several shifts of shadowing. After my second shift my trainer was like, “Uh, she can probably be put on the floor.” I think I annoyed the shit out of her because I wanted to do everything, but we’re so much alike that she wanted to do everything, too. Neither one of us could bear to just stand there doing nothing. Heehee.

I’m afraid they are going to make me do the full week of training. Today I took all the tables (except one) and my trainer backed me up by running food to a couple of tables. She spent most of the day overstocking everything because she didn’t have anything else to do.

Glad things went well. Don’t worry about the bread and salads – you’ll get used to it soon enough. Best of luck, girlie. Keep us updated on what you discover about the new place!

Sounds like a great first day! And definitely sounds like you will be off of training [yawnfest!] in a day or two.

    Good luck and take care.

I’m afraid they might make me train all week since I’m scheduled for it and the other recent hires have needed a full week. Snore.

Hahahahaha! Yep, sounds like your kind of place. That’s a big yay!

Go get ’em girl, you’ll be off training by Wed for sure. 🙂

I work with Sunni on Wednesday night and I’m sure she will let me have a couple of tables by myself. I don’t know everything right now (like where things are & how much tedious stocking needs to be done), but I’ve got the computer system and the menu down. Turn me loose!

Glad to hear your first day went well!! Wish I could have a ‘first day’ somewhere else, but the shithole corporate place I am currently at is about the only one around that will work with my scheduling issues. (I have weird availability).

I’m available any time all the time. I prefer nights, but it appears we all have to work some days as well. Snore.

The owner sounds like he might be cool, also…..Congrats on a job well done!

Sunni said he can be a bit of a pill, but we both worked under a crazy assed manager and she said if I could handle him, I could handle the owner at the new place.

Well, if the hardest part will be learning to slow down, huzzah for easy training!

Welcome to the first day of a better career. Hopefully. 🙂

It is nothing like I’m used to. It’s calm & quiet. There isn’t any chaos. I’m sort of at a loss.
